About Alex Larente

When I was a teenager I was scouted by Vancouver Agency Richards Models . This was my first real introduction to the world of Photography. I travelled to Vancouver several times over the next couple of years; but decided focus on education instead of a modelling career.

After graduating High School, I enrolled in the Digital Film course at the Centre for Arts and Technology. I spent the next 2 years developing technical knowledge and film skills that would later benefit my Photography path greatly. After receiving my degree, I started my own production company named Lex Media and would produce several corporate films and small business commercials for clients in the Okanagan and Vancouver Island.

In 2008 I took a break from Video Production and took on a position at Shaw Communications and volunteered once a week at the local Shaw TV channel. I later become involved in creating Shaw's first Social Media team and have been involved in Analytics, Marketing and Community Development.

In 2012, I decided it was time to return to original passion but wanted to try something a little different. At the time I was also involved in the local Indie Game Developer Community Full Indie as their Community Manager, and needed some photos for the website from different events. I picked up a Canon T3i package, started shooting and haven't stopped.

Currently I am shooting evenings and weekends in my home studio or around English Bay. My girlfriend and incredible model Megan Babee has been an inspiration to my photography and has helped me develop connections in the community. I am also part of local photography group The Group Photo and online photo communities on Reddit and Model Mayhem.

What should you bring to a shoot?

The most important thing to bring on a photo shoot is a positive attitude! Once you have that, the rest is easy.

What to bring:

Light personal makeup kit.
Even with a professional makeup artist, no one knows your skin like you do. If you are sensitive to certain foundations or creams, you will definitely want to make sure you have your own with you.

It also helps to have makeup that matches your skin tone. I will rarely have a make up artist on set for Trade for Print shoots, so make sure you have all the basics.

4-6 outfit changes.
Solid colours and simple patterns work best, and don't forget to accessorize! Include necklaces, belts, earrings or scarfs to complete the set. It's always better to have too many options than not enough

And don't forget to bring your favourite outfit along for the shoot! It helps bring out your personality and style to the photos.

A large warm jacket
Sometimes I like to shoot ouside. It could be windy, rainy, or just cold; and you don't want to end up shivering! Even on a warm day, bring something you can throw in between shoots if you get cold.

Nude and Strapless underwear.
Modelling industry standard. A nude bra with removable straps is preferred, along with nude underwear. If you don't have nude underwear, try to bring a few different colours with no pattern if possible.

The day before the shoot:

Eat healthy, relax and get a great sleep! We want your energy on set so make sure you have lots of it saved up.

The day of the shoot:

Please arrive at least 15-20 minutes before the start time.

Normal sessions will take between 3-4 hours of shooting, so make sure that you eat a light meal before you arrive.
